Continual
cold rolled component integration within StruCad leads to significant benefits
for users.
Metsec is one of
the UK's largest suppliers of cold rolled steel Zed Purlin and Cee-section
profiles for use in roof and side rail systems within building shell
applications. Metsec building shell products are manufactured from pre-hot
dipped galvanised steel (to BS EN 10147 Grade S390 GD + Z coating G275). Their
product range consists of a fully compatible system of cold rolled steel zed and
cee-section profiles, ranging in depth from 142 to 342mm deep. In addition, a
wide range of compatible accessories can be supplied enabling a wide variety of
cladding types and designs to be catered for.
Ordering information for these cold rolled products, including the accessories,
can be transferred by customers using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) from the
advanced 3D detailing system; StruCad, enabling greater efficiency, accuracy and
shorter lead times to be achieved.
AceCad are constantly updating the range of automatic joint connection macros
for cold rolled components within StruCad in line with the manufacturers’
ongoing product development, enabling users to easily select and construct the
most current details within StruCad and then automatically output both accurate
assembly drawings and EDI data for seamless ordering and production.
‘As the use of cold
rolled steel grows, not just in the UK but internationally, the industry changes
and improves its product ranges to deliver advantages in application and
service. This means that 3D software vendors must be able to adapt and
constantly keep up with new cold rolled component technology’,
states Roy Burns of Metsec.
This is precisely the
reason why AceCad has developed advanced software technology to facilitate rapid
incorporation of all the latest cold rolled ranges from the UK’s leading
manufacturers within StruCad. Head of Sales for AceCad Software, Mr Andrew Manze
states, ‘We believe that we must constantly develop our software to ensure
that our valued users benefit from both increased productivity and greater
supply chain integration’.
Over the past twelve months AceCad has completed updates within StruCad for
several cold rolled component manufacturers. Erle Andrews of Metsec concludes;
‘The Metsec cold rolled macros and CAM data facility within StruCad has
proved to have significant benefits. Detailing in StruCad and manufacture at
Metsec is one continuous process – so everyone gains. Our customers save time
and effort by producing their purlin and side rail designs more quickly, easily
and accurately, whilst we use the data to program our rolling lines directly,
ensuring faster supply of the right components’.
With the addition of products such as MetPORT, which incorporates the design
of Metsec purlins and rails within an elastic-plastic portal frame analysis
system, AceCad provides further tools for users to save both time and money. The
MetPORT system fully integrates with StruCad enabling cold and hot rolled
components to be designed and detailed together allowing estimates, material
listings, drawings and CAM files to be generated directly from the analysis
model.
